In 2015, the Association of Parliamentarians for Jerusalem was launched in Istanbul, in the presence of about 130 parliamentarians representing about thirty countries. The organizers emphasized that it came in conjunction with the occupation's implementation of Judaization plans in the holy city, in addition to its relentless efforts to divide Al-Aqsa Mosque spatially and temporally and make it a fait accompli, which requires parliamentarians to take action and expose the occupation's human rights violations.
The association is the first parliamentary platform concerned with activating and coordinating the role of parliamentarians in the world towards Jerusalem and Palestine, according to its website.
Recently, the Director General of the Association of Parliamentarians for Jerusalem, Dr. Mohammed Makram al-Balaawi, announced that his organization has recently become a member of a number of Arab and international parliaments, as it recently obtained an observer membership in the Arab Parliamentary Union, to join this new achievement and membership in the African Parliamentary Union, the Union of Islamic Councils, the international organization Parliamentarians Against Corruption, and the Union of Councils of Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
Sheikh Hamid bin Ali al-Ahmar, president of the Association, emphasizes that his association has members, committees and branches in many countries of the world, and has begun to take its distinctive position in international and regional parliamentary bodies, and its parliamentary movement has become a competitor to the other side in international forums
