Attitudes and support
In an exclusive interview with "Sanad News AgencyThe issue of Jerusalem requires, first and foremost, a much stronger political stance against Israeli actions and support for Jerusalemites on the ground.
"Parliamentarians for Jerusalem" communicates with officials and influential forces in many of the countries it visits. According to Balaawi, the organization has carried out foreign tours since the beginning of this year, all of which focused on ways to support Jerusalem and the Palestinian cause.
The organization's tours to date have included Kuwait, Qatar, Jordan and Indonesia, during which it has met with officials, parliamentarians, human rights defenders and influencers in those countries.
Balaawi said that during its visit to Kuwait, the League asked Parliament Speaker Marzouq al-Ghanem to hold a conference to discuss ways to resume support for the Palestinian cause, and to try to understand the state of normalization with the Israeli occupation and the mechanism to deal with it.
Free normalization
He noted that there is a state of concern as a result of Arab countries going towards unilateral solutions and normalizing their "almost free" relations with the Israeli occupation, he said.
Four Arab countries, namely the UAE, Bahrain, Sudan, Morocco and Sudan, signed US-brokered normalization agreements with Israel in 2020, dubbed the "Abraham Accords".
Al-Balaawi said that normalization with the occupation Popular and parliamentary rejection The position of Arab parliamentarians represents the pulse of their people as opposed to what he described as the "great distance" between them and governments.
He also noted that the League's meetings in Jordan emphasized the importance of continuing Guardianship Al-Aqsa Mosque's affairs, as they constitute one of the most important remaining ties that Muslims have to the mosque.
Work of the Association
Parliamentarians for Jerusalem is an organization founded in 2015 by pro-Palestinian parliamentarians and has a membership of about 1,500 parliamentarians from around the world.
Part of its work is centered on official visits and aims to persuade countries to adopt specific positions towards the Palestinian cause and Jerusalem, mainly focused on parliaments and sometimes governments.
"We are concerned that the occupation does not expand freely and easily in Arab and Islamic countries," Balaawi said.
In this context, he drew attention to the "fierce attack" on governments that normalized relations with Israel, while other Muslim countries, including Indonesia and Pakistan, refrained from following this path.
He added that the tasks assigned to the association are also based on the need to support the Palestinian people politically, financially and economically, whether in Jerusalem or in all of Palestine, and even provide some facilities for some Palestinians abroad.
Keeping the case alive
In order to keep the issue of Jerusalem and its Al-Aqsa Mosque alive in the hearts of Arabs and Muslims, the League tries to constantly remind them that Palestine does not affect only Palestinians, but has global and regional implications that affect everyone, he said.
"Parliamentarians for Jerusalem" works to educate people about the illegitimacy of the Israeli occupation and that it violates international conventions, laws and treaties and contradicts the idea of peaceful coexistence in the world," Balaawi said.
"The world must act quickly, not only to save the Palestinians, but to create a world where peace and law rule, not the law of the jungle.
